Hi! I'm Alex
I am a Software Engineer specializing in distributed systems, currently helping to build SENSE—a high-scale, low-latency cache and real-time data platform for CBA's retail bank. My work involves architecting batch and stream processing infrastructure to handle tens of millions of daily transactions using Java, Flink, Kafka, Cassandra, and Kubernetes.
Work Experience
Promoted six months ahead of the 18-month graduate program. Now focused on platform security and reducing operational toil.
- Automating TLS certificate issuance across AWS PCA and Venafi, replacing manual renewals.
- Wrote a board-style paper on how geopolitical risk flows through to credit risk, and presented it to a mock board of General Managers and Executive Managers.
- Reworked the paper for a broader enterprise-risk audience and presented it to an Executive General Manager.
- Featured in a documentary on CBA's leadership principles.
Skipped graduate rotations to stay on one platform team and go deep on high-availability infrastructure.
- Built Flink operators for transaction reconciliation behind StepPay and international transaction fees.
- Migrated production secrets from the CSI driver and AWS Secrets Manager to ESO and HashiCorp Vault via ArgoCD, with zero downtime.
- Owned a P2 incident end to end: root cause, code and systemic fixes, then presented the lessons to the engineering guild.
- On a 1-in-10 on-call roster; helped resolve a P1 by tracing downstream notification load back to batch processing.
- Co-designed and delivered a 1.5-hour session on AI at CBA to 380 students (AWS VET).
Built a next-generation prototype of Enatel's electrical monitoring platform end to end, from embedded firmware to cloud to dashboard.
- Wrote C/C++ firmware for ARM devices, bridging CAN 2.0B to Azure IoT.
- Designed Azure telemetry infrastructure and an Angular/Express dashboard for real-time and historical device data.
- Set up a Raspberry Pi and container dev workflow that mirrored production, and helped choose components for the next prototype.
Contracted across two engagements to prototype new product directions for a computer-science education platform.
- Rebuilt the landing site in Nuxt, lifting impressions 280% in testing.
- Took a gamified profile dashboard from concept to Sketch designs to a working frontend with timeline-driven GSAP and anime.js animation.
- Wrote CS course content aligned to the AU, NZ and UK curricula.
